(BEDFORD) - A fire caused extensive damage to a home on J Street Friday night.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at 1920 J Street at 7:23 p.m. after a neighbor reported seeing flames coming from the home.

When firefighters arrived there was heavy smoke coming from the south side of the home.

While firefighters battled the blaze, two others entered the home to check for residents.

They saved a dog belonging to PJ and Ashley Granger, who are renting the home owned by Tim Fleenor. The Grangers were not home when the fire started.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
