(GREENE CO.) - Indiana Conservation officer will continue searching a body of water at the Greene-Sullivan State Forest this morning around 8 a.m.
Indiana Conservation Officer Nathan Lutz cannot say if the search is in related to the silver alert for Robert G. Waters, of Linton.
Conservation Officers Mike Gregg and Matt Landis were patrolling the area around 3:30 p.m. Monday when they found evidence that a vehicle may have driven off the road into a body of water in Greene-Sullivan State Forest.
Conservation officers, as well as State Police and Greene County Sheriff's Department personnel, were on site while a boat scanned for objects beneath the water on Monday.
Officers in a boat used side scan sonar technology, to look for the vehicle. After finding what they believed to be the vehicle about 65 feet below the surface around 7 p.m. divers were sent into the water.
"When we have strip pits like this...there are several different walls and barricades where the mining companies were digging when they first put these pits in, which cause some difficulties in locating and maintaining a mark on a type of vehicle in the water," Lutz added.
Officers dragged the lake bottom until search efforts concluded around 7:50 p.m.
