(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County commissioners held their last meeting of 2017 Tuesday morning.
Lawrence County Veterans Affairs Officer Brad Bough has set aside two hours on Friday for veterans to file their 2017 tax credits.
"On Friday, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. the office staff will only be addressing disabled veterans tax credits," he added. "It won't take long and all disabled veterans must have the forms filed by 4:30 p.m. Friday to receive the credit. Veterans must have the offices stamp of approval before they can receive the tax deduction."
Those who can not attend during those hours on Friday, can call the office at (812) 275-6411 to and make an appointment.
In other business:
Bough, who also serves as the vice president of the Indiana Veterans Service Association will testify before the General Assembly in Indianapolis on Jan. 9th.
Bough also thanked the commissioners for their continued support, especially Commissioner Rodney Fish who was instrumental in establishing the POW/MIA monument inside the courthouse lobby.

The commissioners approved CLR to replace Bridge 170 on Stove Road and Bridge 78 on Pumphouse Road. CLR submitted the lowest bids.
Bids are now being accepted for the replacement for Bridge 67 on Lawrenceport Road. The now 96 foot bridge over Sugar Creek will be replaced with a 110 foot bridge at an estimated cost of half a million dollars. Bids for the project are due on Jan. 23.
Lawrence highway crews continue to cold patch roadways, put down shot rock and do ditching on county roads.

As of Tuesday morning, Sheriff Mike Branham reported there were 173 inmates housed at the jail, of those 41 were females, 13 were Level 6 felons and there was 1 Department of Correction hold.
Sheriff Branham says the department is working on improving community policing by holding three Coffee with a Cop events in January.
"The mission is to break down the barriers between deputies and the citizens we serve," he added. "It will be a town hall forum where residents can ask questions and voice concerns and get to know the deputies, detectives and drug officers."

Sheriff Branham is also working with North Lawrence Community School officials to provide a full-time resource officer for the 2018-19 school year.
Most of the officer's salary will be paid for with a Safe Haven grant awarded to the school with some funding from the county.
Sheriff Branham reported an officer involved shooting that occurred at 1:49 a.m. Christmas Eve in the 550 block of Old Buddha Road.
"A female suspect pointed a gun a two officers and she was shot," says Sheriff Branham. "She is in stable condition and from our investigation so far, the officers handled the situation perfectly. The two officers are currently on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues."
On Christmas Eve at 1:49 a.m. There was a call about a 47-year-old woman wanting to commit suicide at 559 Old Buddha Road. The log states shots were fired at 2:22 a.m. and Statflight went to Dunn and the prosecutor was alerted.

The commissioners passed a resolution approving the Lawrence County Multi-Hazard Mitigation plan. A copy of the plan is available for public view in the auditor's office.

The commissioners approved a contract with Spice Valley Landscape to care for the courthouse lawn. The year contract will cost the county $4,840 which will be paid in two installments of $2,420.

The commissioners approved a contract with the White River Humane Society. The county will pay the humane society $45,000 a year to care for the homeless animals of Lawrence County.

The commissioners opened bids for the next cycle of reassessment. Those bids were taken under advisement.

The commissioners approved and signed a renewal contract for the county's property liability and workman's compensation insurance.
Miles Parker, of Parker Insurance says the county received good news.
"The premiums are favorable and 4 percent under budget," he added.
