(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington announced its first public art collaboration with AJ Capital at the Graduate Hotel development site on Kirkwood Avenue featuring "All Hands for Bloomington" by Nat Russell, an Indianapolis-based artist and illustrator.

"We're ecstatic to see this new installation during the construction phase of the project. This is a unique collaboration with Graduate Hotels and its developer, AJ Capital Partners, on a project of this nature. I hope other developers are inspired by how the construction phase of a project can use public art to beautify a job site," said Mayor John Hamilton.

"As a design driven collection of hotels situated in our country's most dynamic university-anchored communities, art has always been at the core of what we do at Graduate Hotels," said Tim Franzen, President of Graduate Hotels. "Installing temporary art around the project site even at this early stage made perfect sense. We applaud Mayor Hamilton, the City of Bloomington and its Arts Commission for their active support of the arts and our project."

This project is part of a larger effort put forth by the City of Bloomington Arts Commission (BAC) and its Strategic Plan and Public Art Master Plan for the City of Bloomington. The Public Arts Master Plan has identified shared civic values for the arts, objectives and aspirations for public art, and priorities for public art investment, which are designed to positively impact the creation of bold, innovative and impactful works of public art in performance, visual, literary, design and architecture disciplines.

"Construction phases can be such a burden on pedestrian experiences. Thanks to Graduate Hotels' commitment to the arts we're able to work with internationally recognized artist Nat Russell and use the construction phase as an opportunity to explore a temporary art installation," commented Sean Starowitz, Assistant Director of Economic Development for the Arts.
