Bloomington Residents Asked To Keep Storm Grates Clean Of Debris

Last updated on Friday, December 15, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - After collecting 4,280 cubic yards of leaves in its initial pass, the City of Bloomington Streets Department has started its second round of curbside leaf vacuuming.

The City of Bloomington Utilities would like to remind residents that clearing leaves and other debris from storm inlets is a year-round team effort. CBU sends out ten crews to clear the City's 5,700 storm drain inlets prior to any rain event, focusing first on historical "trouble spots."

Residents are essential partners in preventing stormwater from backing up in Bloomington's neighborhoods. Residents can help keep storm grates clean by mowing grass in ditches, clearing garbage from inlets, and by never dumping waste into the City's storm sewer system. Also, if you encounter an inlet that is clogged with debris, report it to CBU right away.
