Winter Farmers' Market Returns Saturday At Harmony School

Last updated on Thursday, November 30, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market returns Saturday inside of Harmony School.

The market runs Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. between Dec. 2 and March 31 inside Harmony School at 909 East Second Street. They will be open on Dec. 23rd and 30th.

Along with farmers' market produce there will be specialized vendors participating throughout the winter months.

More than 25 farmers sell a wide variety of produce, meats, cheeses, eggs and honey. Customers can also sip an espresso or enjoy a hot breakfast while listening to world-class musical entertainment.

"The Winter Market reaches out to the whole community in support of local growers and musicians. It provides educational opportunities and programs to enhance our community's understanding of healthful options in lifestyle habits in addition to providing on site access to local, healthy food," says Bobbi Boos, Market Master.

On the first Saturday of every month, Wild Alaska Salmon & Seafood will sell salmon that is caught and processed in the same day.

Bloomington Precision Sharpening will have a chef at the market to sharpen knives every second and fourth Saturday.

Those who use food stamps can double their benefits for up to $18 worth of tokens, meaning they could have a maximum of $36 to spend on produce. Any unused tokens can be brought back and spent another weekend.

In addition, the market offers to buy farmers' unsold food for half price through the Farm to Family Fund and deliver it to Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, the Community Kitchen and The Rise! Middleway House transitional housing project.

Gift cards supporting the Farm to Family Fund are for sale at healthfulfoodfund@gmail.com. Through a 2-to-1 matching grant, the purchase of a $10 gift card would actually provide $30 for the fund to buy food and help families.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the market can contact Bobbi Boos at bloomingtonwinterfarmersmarket@gmail.com.
