Last updated on Monday, November 6, 2017

(CRANE) - Tony Haag, a local resident and a 34-year employee at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), was awarded the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award for his innovative leadership within the Department of Navy (DoN) Electronic Warfare Community.

The award, presented by the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) on Thursday, is the highest honorary award that can be bestowed to civilian employees in the DoN.

"Mr. Haag's innovative leadership across multiple commands and echelons impacted the Navy well beyond his organization," Vice Admiral Jan E. Tighe, Deputy CNO for Information Warfare, wrote in the award citation. "He broke through organizational stovepipes with political savvy to bring together diverse stakeholders in several new collaboration forums."

"His energy, leadership, and dedication to duty reflected great credit upon him, and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Naval Service."

Haag successfully brought together experts from more than a dozen organizations across the Navy and Marine Corps to facilitate new cooperation and collaboration.

"As our Navy leaders have often said, we need to move faster to deliver the necessary capabilities to the warfighter," said Janna Foxx, NSWC Crane's Deputy Technical Director. "Tony's efforts helped tremendously with the speed at which solutions were provided by ensuring the best talent was identified for the task. I appreciate his willingness to take on such an assignment and perform it so well. This award is well deserved."

Haag, a graduate of Purdue University, began working at NSWC Crane on a full-time basis in 1986 as an Electrical Engineer. Since then, Haag has served in numerous managerial and technical leadership roles at Crane.

NSWC Crane is a naval laboratory and a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). NSWC Crane is responsible for multi-domain, multi-spectral, full life cycle support of technologies and systems enhancing capability of today's warfighter.
