Last updated on Monday, November 27, 2017

(MITCHELL) - Spring Mill State Park and Cave River Valley closed Sunday for a controlled deer hunt. The park will reopen on Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m.or 5 p.m.

The hunts are to reduce the parks' deer populations to maintain habitat for other animals and state-endangered plants.

Other parks affected are Chain O'Lakes, Charlestown, Clifty Falls, Fort Harrison, Harmonie, Lincoln, McCormick's Creek, Ouabache, Pokagon and Trine State Recreation Area, Potato Creek, Shades, Shakamak, Spring Mill and Cave River Valley Natural Area, Tippecanoe River, Versailles, and Whitewater Memorial.

Only hunters selected from a draw in September and their designated hunting partners may participate in the hunts.
