Seymour Man Dies After Flipping Van In Cornfield

Last updated on Tuesday, November 7, 2017

(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour man died after wrecking his vehicle while on the way home late Wednesday night.

According to a Jackson County Police report, 70-year-old Gary Reedy was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the 3700 block of North County Road 600 East in rural Seymour.

Officers were called to the scene after a motorist called at 11:13 p.m. to report a man lying in the roadway.

When police arrived they found Reedy in the roadway and began CPR until emergency crews arrived. Jackson County Coroner Mike Bobb pronounced Reedy dead at the scene.

Police believe Reedy was traveling north in a 2014 Chrysler van on County Road 600 East when his van went off the east side of the roadway. Police say Reedy over corrected and drove off the west side of the road, and into a harvested cornfield. The van went airborne at least once, before rolling and coming to a rest upside down in a yard.

Police say Reedy was ejected from the van.
