Orange County Historical Society Busy Planning Holiday Events

(PAOLI) - The Orange County Historical Society is finalizing plans for its upcoming Holiday Open House at the Museum set for Sunday, November 19th from 1 to 4 p.m.

The event is being held in conjunction with the annual Paoli Merchants Christmas Open House. The newly updated exhibit areas will be open that afternoon to visitors.

There will be no admission charged; however donations will be accepted to go towards continual renovation efforts at the museum.

The group will also have its Holiday Market set up that day in the downstairs "Family Room" with gift giving ideas for the history buff on your Christmas list this year.

There will be a drawing for a beautiful handmade quilt during the event.

"We would like to extend a special invitation to everyone to stop in and say hello during the Open House event and view some of the updates that have been made at the Museum this past year," OCHS President Robert Henderson says.

This will be the last time the Museum will be open for the season outside of appointment for individuals and/or small groups.

A new temporary exhibit has been prepared upstairs spotlighting the county's sports and leisure activities through the decades.

As a "Fun-Raiser" the group has produced a commemorative Christmas Ornament this holiday season celebrating the restored historic Iron Bridge on Gospel Street in Paoli.

The ornaments 2017 Iron Bridge Christmas Ornament are now available for purchase for $12 each while supplies last. Only limited number will be produced and they expected to sell out completely. One of the ornaments will adorn the 92-county Christmas Tree at the Indiana State Museum

The collectibles can be purchased at Roslyn's Corner Gifts and will also be available from the Museum Gift Shop on November 19th.

In addition to the Holiday Open House at the Museum members will once play host it its 2nd Annual " Old Fashioned Christmas at the Farmhouse" on Sunday, December 3rd from 1 to 4 p.m.

The historic Lindley House, located on Willow Creek Road will be open that afternoon and decorated in part to reflect an 1860s Christmas.

Visitors will enjoy an informal tour of the old farmhouse, and listening to musical entertainment of the Left Field String Band in the Front Parlor. Light refreshments will also be served.

OCHS meets monthly at the Paoli Library unless otherwise noted with the exception of the months of January and February. The next regular meeting is set for November 14th 7 p.m. at the Paoli Public Library meeting room.

The group will hold their Annual Christmas Dinner on December 6th at 6 p.m. at the Paoli Senior Center. Invitations are being mailed to all members. The cost will be $12 per person. Please RSVP by responding calling Robert (812) - 653-1212 by Nov. 29th.

Dues will be payable again January 1st and remain unchanged from last year: Active members $20; Junior Historian (Student) $10. Lifetime Membership remains at $200.
