(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of their Advancing Out-of- School STEM Learning grant cycle. Eight Lawrence County schools and organizations will receive awards totaling over $30,000.

The STEM grant cycle is made possible by a $25,000 grant from Regional Opportunity Initiatives, Inc. to support learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Additional funding is being provided by the Lawrence County Community Foundation education endowment fund. To qualify for funding, the STEM programs must occur outside of the traditional school day and promote opportunities for hands-on learning.

The awards range from $800 to $11,100 and include a 3:1 matching grant challenge to LC STEAM. For every $1 the group raises, the Community Foundation will match it with $3, up to a total of $11,100.

Lisa Starr, Finance/Grants Coordinator of the Lawrence County Community Foundation, encourages the STEM community to support LC STEAM as they fundraise.

"It is so important that we engage our youth in interesting, educational activities such as those provided by LC STEAM." She added, "We had many terrific proposals; I'm hopeful these grants will help strengthen the future workforce in Lawrence County."

The proposals were evaluated by a committee of experienced grant and STEM professionals. Grantees and project names follow:
