Heavy Traffic Expected For Last IU Home Football Game, Lane Restrictions Remain On State Road 37

Last updated on Friday, November 17, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The IU Hoosiers will host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the final home game of the season tomorrow at noon. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) reminds motorists that work on SR 37 continues, and fans should plan for delays between Martinsville and Bloomington.

Motorists coming from the north are strongly encouraged to use the alternate routes of I-65 south to SR 46 west or SR 67 south to SR 46 east to reach Bloomington. Fans who choose to use SR 37 before or after the game can expect lengthy delays and periods of stop-and-go traffic.

At congested merge points, all drivers are asked to employ the zipper merge technique, using both lanes up to the merge point then alternating entry into the single lane of traffic.

Construction activity may be limited due to a less than favorable weather forecast, but lane restrictions remain in place, most notably in the northern section from Legendary Drive to Chambers Pike. Showers, thundershowers and periods of heavy rain will make driving conditions difficult, and motorists are encouraged to pay attention, leave plenty of room between vehicles and follow the posted 45 mph speed limit.

All fans traveling between Indianapolis and Bloomington on SR 37 should expect significant delays and heavy traffic entering the restricted lanes in the northern section of the work zone. INDOT asks that all drivers put down their cell phones and other distractions, pay attention to their surroundings, plan ahead and allow for extra time to reach your destination.
