(SULLIVAN) - Indiana State Police have arrested the former treasurer of the Southwest School Corporation in Sullivan County, Amy Kinnett, on a Level 6 felony count of official misconduct, a level 6.

Kinnett surrendered to Indiana State Police around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Kinnett, who has been treasurer for more than 8 years, was placed on official administrative leave on May 19th due to concerns identified by the Southwest School Corporation administration.

The ISP investigation began on August 18th when ISP Special Investigations Det. Sergeant Troy Stanton met with representatives from a private forensic audit unit, hired by the school corporation to review financial records, after allegations of possible wrongdoing by Kinnett.

Police say Kinnett used the school corporation's credit card between 2015 - 2017, for personal use, including purchases for bridal merchandise, hotel stays, groceries, purchasing a telephone and paying telephone bills, and clothing items - totaling more than $6,000.

During this investigation, police say Kinnett began making substantial restitution to the school corporation.
