Last updated on Tuesday, November 7, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington is proud to announce its participation in a national public art project, Pledges of Allegiance, with the New York-based public arts nonprofit Creative Time.

Today the City of Bloomington will hoist the sixth public artwork in the Pledges of Allegiance series. The public is encouraged to attend the public artwork raising on November 7 at 10:30 a.m. outside City Hall, 401 N. Morton.

Pledges of Allegiance is a serialized commission of sixteen flags, each created by acclaimed artists to reflect the current political climate. Flags will be raised at varying public spaces across the United States over the course of a year.

Over the past four decades, Creative Time has collaborated with thousands of artists throughout New York City and across the country, partnering with landmark organizations and city agencies such as the Brooklyn Navy Yard, MoMA, The High Line, Grand Central Terminal, Central Park Conservancy, and the Office of the Mayor of New York City. Notable projects include the 9/11 memorial Tribute in Light, Kara Walker's A Subtlety at the former Domino Sugar factory, and Duke Riley's Fly By Night.

"Bloomington's participation in this national public art initiative is thrilling, and we are proud to partner with Creative Time to activate a new display of public art," commented Sean Starowitz, Assistant Director of Economic Development for the Arts.
