BRF Presents Boys and Girls Club with Proceeds from Try for Dye Contest

Last updated on Monday, November 20, 2017

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Recreation Foundation (BRF) presented a donation check of $2,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.

"It will be used to go to our programs, Chefs Hat, homework room, STEM, robotics, all of those things that will help make the club better for the kids," said Timber Browning, Resource Development and Marketing Director at the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County.

This money was a portion of the proceeds raised from the Try for Dye Contest held on Hole #17 during the 2017 Annual Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic held this past Labor Day Weekend at Otis Park Golf Course. Golfers in the tournament paid to play in the Try for Dye Contest for their chance to win a round of golf at the Pete Dye Course in French Lick.

"We've just always been a contributor to the Boys and Girls club. This was just another way to do it. Another fun contest to do. We had an opportunity with this prize donated, so we wanted to utilize it. Not only help us, but the Boys and Girls Club," said Tom Elliott, President of BRF.

"It's because of them [golfers] that we're able to help," said Joey Elliott, Golf Chairman of BRF.

This was the second year for this particular contest in the 2017 Annual Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic. BRF has given back over $700,000 over the span of 20 years.

"It would be hard [to operate] because if we didn't have donations, sponsors and people wanting to help us out...We couldn't be as successful as we are. So its with the help of the community that we can do what we are doing for these kids," Browning said.
