(BLOOMINGTON) - Independent film company Pigasus Pictures, based in Bloomington, will complete production of its second feature film in coming weeks, following the widespread success of the company’s first feature film “The Good Catholic,” which was named Best Feature Film at the 2017 Santa Barbara International Film Festival and featured Danny Glover (“Lethal Weapon,” “The Color Purple”) and John C. McGinley (“Scrubs,” “The Rock”).
Filmed and edited entirely in Bloomington, the forthcoming drama "Ms. White Light" will be the first in a slate of six projects created under a private equity model, developed by Pigasus, called Indiana Film Fund, LLC. "Ms. White Light" will feature John Ortiz ("Fast & Furious," "Silver Linings Playbook") and Tony Award winner Judith Light ("Transparent," "Who's the Boss?"). The remaining five projects of the Indiana Film Fund initiative have been secured, including four feature films and two television pilots planned for production in 2018 and 2019. All projects are slated for initial release by 2021.
"There are numerous advantages to working under the fund model as we are through the Indiana Film Fund, including mitigated investor risk and reduced production costs," said Pigasus Pictures Chief Operating Officer John Armstrong. "Overall at Pigasus, we are dedicated to revitalizing the film industry in Indiana, and we're doing this by creating Indiana jobs, retaining and developing Indiana talent, and working to inspire the next generation of filmmakers in the state."
For "The Good Catholic," the resulting lowered production costs allowed Pigasus Pictures to reallocate the bulk of its financial resources toward on-screen production values, subsequently creating the look and feel of a production budget much higher than its actual $550,000. "The Good Catholic" was distributed both nationally and internationally following a limited theatrical release. The film is now available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, video on demand and DVD/Blu-ray.
Pigasus Pictures hires a majority of its crew locally, creates internship opportunities with universities (frequently hiring from its intern pool), and works with Indiana high school students on short films. Owned and operated by Indiana natives and Indiana University alumni Zachary Spicer and John Armstrong, Pigasus Pictures has created an Indiana-centric production infrastructure and strong working relationships with local business, community and university entities while simultaneously engaging the key industry influencers required to bring a film to market.
