Bloomington Police Looking For Man Who Shot Ex-Girlfriend's New Boyfriend

Last updated on Monday, November 27, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police are investigating a Wednesday morning shooting that left two people injured.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, officers responded around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 2300 block of South Milton Drive to a shots fired call.

While police investigated, a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman showed up at two different area hospitals with gunshot wounds. Police said the woman suffered two wounds and was treated and released. Police also said the man-who is the woman's boyfriend- was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after being shot in the pelvis. He has since been released.

According to police, the incident involved an ex-boyfriend, a new boyfriend and a girlfriend. Police said all individuals were known to one another and the shooting was "not a random home invasion."

When police arrived at the home where the shooting occurred they found a 26-year-old woman and her three children, between the ages of 7 years and 7 months, according to Detective Sgt. Dana Cole said.

Everyone else inside the house left before police arrived. The woman's injured boyfriend and injured friend had family members drive them to Bloomington hospitals.

The 26-year-old woman told police she had been in the kitchen getting her hair done and hanging out with her boyfriend and another couple. She says her ex-boyfriend, a 39-year-old man who is the father of her children, used his house key to enter the home. He then walked into the kitchen area without saying anything, pulled out a handgun and shot her new boyfriend. The boyfriend pulled out his own handgun and fired back, the woman told investigators.

The woman braiding hair ran out of the residence when the shooting started, then ran back inside the house. That's when police say one bullet grazed her shoulder and another bullet struck her in the lower back.

Both women told police similar stories, the boyfriend refused to speak to police.

After the shooting, the 39-year-old man ran from the house to a parked vehicle with its engine running in the driveway and fled the scene. Police do not know if he was injured in the shooting.

Investigators collected two shell casings from one weapon and at least four shell casings from a different gun. The guns have not been recovered.

The three children were in the living room, next to the kitchen, at the time of the shooting and were not injured. They were released into the custody of Child Services.
