Bedford Man Arrested After Injuring Toddler

Last updated on Tuesday, November 7, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after police say he injured a 2-year-old female on Monday night.

Police arrested 30-year-old Jacob Lane of Oolitic on charges of battery on a child under the age of 14 and neglect of a dependent.

Bedford Police were called to a home in the 1200 block of 9th Street at 9:18 p.m. after a complaint of a baby crying and lots of yelling.

When police arrived Lane answered the door.

"Officers told Mr. Lane why they were there and they needed to check on the child," Chief Dennis Parsley says.

Lane told police the 2-year-old female was upset because she didn't like taking a bath.

Officers went upstairs and found that the child had suffered a large red mark on her right leg and red marks on both her right and left buttocks area.

When asked how the child received those marks, Lane told police the child had slipped and fell.

Police contacted the child's mother, who was at work and a Department of Child Services caseworker.

The child was then detained by Child Services and removed from the home.

When police went back to speak to Lane they found he had fled the home.

He was located at Fifth and M streets and arrested.
