(BEDFORD) - Bedford police were called to a home at 2901 South I Street on Halloween after the homeowner's son noticed a suspicious vehicle in the driveway.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers received the call at 4:13 p.m. reporting that the son had approached a male and female who had been in his mother's garage and were stealing items.

"After approaching the two, they jumped in their vehicle and fled," Chief Parsley says. "The son called police and officers responded to find the suspects. While pulling out of the drive, they crashed into another vehicle in their attempt to flee."

According to the accident report, 21-year-old Ian Thorpe of Bedford was fleeing from the home in a black 2000 Mazda and was attempting to turn north on South I Street when he pulled into the path of a 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by 48-year-old Bobbie Ames of Bedford, who was traveling south on South I Street.

Ames told police that Thorpe didn't stop before exiting the driveway colliding with her vehicle. She told police she attempted to avoid the accident, but was unable to.

Police say no one was injured during the crash.

Police discovered several stolen items taken from the garage inside the Mazda.

Police arrested Ian Thorpe and his passenger, 31-year-old Sue Ann Branch-Thorpe, on charges of burglary. Police didn't have information on how the two were related.
