(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man complained of back pain after an accident at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday at US 50 East and M streets.

According to a Bedford Police report, 52-year-old Drew Reed of Seymour was stopped southbound turn lane on M Street at the traffic light at the intersection of US 50 East to turn right on US 50 East.

At the same time, 41-year-old Benjamin Haines of Bedford was traveling southbound on M Street approaching the same intersection.

Stopped at the same intersection was 57-year-old Katherine Finley of Bedford was traveling eastbound on US 50 East.

Reed told police he made his turn when he suddenly felt contact on the driver's side door and looked back to see Haines' 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. Reed told police he didn't see Haines' car before the collision.

Witnesses say Haines, when making a right turn, crossed the center line and struck Finley's 2011 Ford Escape head-on, before bouncing off and striking the side of Reed's vehicle.

Haines told police he thought he could accelerate and get around Reed's vehicle and make the turn but when he accelerated he started to lose control of his car and struck Fliney's car before striking Reed's vehicle.

Haines was cited for unsafe lane movement.

A passenger in Finley's vehicle, 59-year-old Jeffery Finley of Bedford complained of back pain and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Haines and Katherine Finley were not injured.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters with the Bedford Fire Department and an IU Health Hospital ambulance.
