Last updated on Monday, October 16, 2017

(BEDFORD) - A Columbus man was arrested after he allegedly stole items from the Bedford Wal-Mart and fled.

Bedford Police officers were called to the store at 6:20 p.m. on Friday after a lost prevention officer reported a male was stopped for shoplifting then pushed the store security officer and fled.

Police say 18-year-old Robert Herlein ran north through the parking lot, crossed John Williams Boulevard and fled into the woods.

"Officers set up a perimeter and located Mr. Herlein in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn," says Chief Dennis Parsley. "Officers gave several commands for him to stop which he refused to heed. Mr. Herlein continued to walk away from officer and he was stopped and arrested."

Herlein was booked into the Lawrence County jail on charges of battery, theft and resisting law enforcement.
