Last updated on Tuesday, October 10, 2017

(JASONVILLE) - Jasonville Police Department are warning residents if they steal utilities such as water/sewer electric and gas you will be arrested.

According to a Facebook post - this applies to instances in which, after being disconnected, residents will tamper with their meters to turn services back on; cutting the lock off a meter that has been locked; connecting oneself without a meter and, last but not least, connecting to a neighboring residence to partake in their services.

Police say the theft can be a misdemeanor or a felony charge depending on the dollar amount of the services stolen.

Jasonville Police Chief Jim Gadberry says it is not a huge issue, but there has been a rise in instances of energy theft -
whether it's a simple trip to cut the line of repeat offender or answering the call of a woman away in Florida who received a water bill of more than $1,000 when someone stole water services to her vacant rental home. Gadberry says the department wants to give fair warning to people and put a stop to it.
