(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana’s Supreme Court will not hear convicted killer Daniel Messel’s appeal.
Messel was found guilty by a jury of the beating death Indiana University senior Hannah Wilson in 2015. He was sentenced to 60 years for murder and another 20 years for being a habitual criminal.
"The court has reviewed the decision of the Court of Appeals, and the submitted record on appeal, all briefs filed in the Court of Appeals, and all materials filed in connection with the request to transfer jurisdiction have been made available to the court for review," Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush wrote. "Each participating member has had the opportunity to voice that justice's views on the case in conference with the other justices, and each participating member of the court has voted on the petition. Being duly advised, the court denies the petition to transfer."
She cited "the overwhelming evidence of defendant's guilt" in the unanimous ruling of all five justices.
