Heavy Traffic Expected For IU Homecoming Weekend

Last updated on Friday, October 13, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The IU Hoosiers will celebrate homecoming this weekend by taking on the Michigan Wolverines tomorrow at noon at The Rock. While most of Friday and Saturday’s homecoming events will be held on or near campus, getting there may be a challenge. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) reminds motorists that work on SR 37 continues, and fans should plan for delays between Martinsville and Bloomington.

Traffic is reduced to a single lane in both directions in the northern section of the construction zone, from Chambers Pike to Legendary Drive. Fans coming from the north are encouraged to use the alternate routes of I-65 south to SR 46 west or SR 67 south to SR 46 east to reach Bloomington.

Fans and alumni who choose to take SR 37 south are asked to employ the zipper merge technique should back-ups occur south of Martinsville, using both lanes up to the merge point then alternating entry into the single lane of traffic.

INDOT also reminds motorists coming from the south that the right lane of northbound SR 37 will be closed from south of Tapp Road to just south of SR 45, and delays are to be expected.

All motorists are urged to observe the 45 mph speed limit posted throughout the entire 21-mile construction zone. Please drive safely, plan ahead, leave early and allow for extra time to reach your destination.
