Last updated on Monday, October 2, 2017

(BEDFORD) - National Coffee With a Cop day is Wednesday and you can can join Bedford Police officers for a free cup of coffee and breakfast at Apron Strings Diner at 647 X Street.

Fresh brewed coffee and a light breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

"This free event is being sponsored by Apron Strings Diner and Lighthouse Financial Services," says Chief Dennis Parsley. "It is a chance for the public to come out and relax, have a cup of coffee and visit with officers and have an informal discussion about issues of concerns and ask questions. We encourage people to bring their kids, meet officers and spend time learning about what we do."

Coffee with a Cop is a movement designed to help break down the barriers between law enforcement and community members. Coffee with a Cop provides an opportunity for officers and citizens to get together, share a cup of coffee, and discuss problems and issues that often go unaddressed or unresolved.

Coffee with a Cop was created in Hawthorne, California in 2011 as a result of a brainstorming session to help officers interact on a more personal level with the community.
