Fire Destroys Vacant Home, Damages Vehicles And Neighboring Home

Last updated on Monday, October 30, 2017

(MITCHELL) - A vacant house in the 2970 block of Earl Road was destroyed by fire Thursday morning.

Marion Township Volunteer Department firefighters were called to the blaze at 6:45 a.m., but were dispatched to the wrong location, delaying firefighters in arriving at the scene.

Chief Paul Gillespie says the fire engulfed the vacant home, destroyed one vehicle and damaged another and caused minor damage to a neighbor home.

The vehicles belong to the owners of the vacant property, who firefighters are not identifying until their investigation is complete.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Mitchell, Shawswick and Huron Volunteer Fire Departments. TOPES also responded to the scene.
