Conservation Officers Investigating Fatal Off-Road Vehicle Accident Near Salem

(SALEM) - Indiana Conservation officers are investigating a fatal off-road vehicle accident that happened on Arrow Road, outside of Salem early Saturday morning.

According to police, 26-year-old Hershel Lanham of Pekin died from injuries suffered in the crash.

The accident happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Arrow Road, near Cox Ferry Road. Police found Lanham unresponsive in the roadway, adjacent to the accident scene. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Coroner's office.

Lanham was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and utilize necessary safety equipment when operating an ORV.

The accident remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies included the Washington County Sheriff's Department and Washington County EMS.
