(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested after police say he stabbed a pit bull to death.

Police arrested 29-year-old Antoinne Shaw on a felony charge of killing a domestic animal and theft. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $3,500 bond.

According to Indiana State Police, on the evening of March 22, a Bloomington couple reported Shaw had killed their dog - Blue.

Shaw had been staying with the couple and asked Shaw to watch their dogs while they were in Greenwood. The couple paid Shaw in a half-gallon of vodka and cash.

When the couple returned home they found a bloody scene and the dog dead on the floor. Police say the dog had been stabbed 10 times in the back.

Two other dogs were not injured.

Shaw told police he killed the dog because it was attacking another dog and had walked the other injured dog to a nearby veterinary clinic for treatment. But police say the dog didn't show any sign of injuries and the veterinarian's office had not record of Shaw ever bringing an animal to their clinic.

Shaw was charged with theft after he admitted to stealing portable chargers and an electronic cigarette from the couple's home.
