Last updated on Tuesday, October 24, 2017

(SHOALS) - An accident on State Road 450 has claimed the life of a Shoals man.

The accident happened on Oct. 18th, at 2:10 p.m. on State Road 450, just north of Hickory Ridge Road.

43-year-old Juan Terry was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a Martin County Sheriff's Department police report, two witnesses, who were in separate vehicles told deputies they saw a vehicle traveling southwest on State Road 450 at a high-rate of speed and then cross the center line. Police say Terry was driving a 1998 Dodge truck.

Police say Terry then swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and overcorrected, causing him to cross over the center line, nearly hitting one of the witnesses. He then overcorrected a final time, which caused his truck to run off the road, hitting an electric pole, snapping it in half.

Terry, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected and trapped under the vehicle.

Martin County Deputy Coroner Mark Franklin pronounced Terry dead at the scene.

The road was closed for more than two hours while police investigated the accident.

Assisting at the scene were Shoals Fire Department, Martin County EMS and Daviess-Martin County REMC.
