27 Arrested On Drug Charges After 44 Controlled Drug Buys

(UNDATED) - At approximately 4:30 a.m. today a joint operation between the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Bedford Police Department, Mitchell Police Department, and the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office began with the execution of two search warrants.

The search warrants and 27 arrest warrants for dealing were obtained as a result of two months of investigation by the Lawrence County Drug Task Force that involved 44 controlled buys of methamphetamine, heroin, Fentanyl, marijuana, and prescription medication between the beginning of August and the end of September.

These investigations spanned the cities of Bedford and Mitchell, the town of Oolitic, and rural areas of Lawrence County.

Over the course of 8 hours, officers from the three departments served 15 of the 21 arrest warrants for dealing and an additional 40 unrelated warrants.

A total of 27 persons were arrested in three counties on 32 warrants. Three of those were individuals with new arrest warrants who were already incarcerated in the Lawrence County Jail, and one who was already incarcerated at another facility. In addition to the warrants, police anticipate at least ten new criminal cases stemming from the warrant sweep this morning.
