(BLOOMINGTON) - A 21-year-old woman told Bloomington police a man grabbed her from behind, put his hands up her dress and pushed her to the ground as she walked downtown over the weekend.

The assault happened in the 400 block of North Walnut Street at about 3:20 a.m. on Sunday.

According to Bloomington Police Lt. John Kovach, the woman reported that a male came up behind her while she was walking northbound on North Walnut Street and put his hand up her dress and grabbed her. The woman told the man to stop and go away, but he pushed her down multiple times. He then got on top of her.

Two male friends, who were walking in front of her, saw what happened and ran to her and pulled the man off of her.

The attacker then pushed one of the males to the ground and got on top of him. The other male was able to pull the attacker off.

The woman and her two friends then ran with the attacker following, but he stopped and fled the scene before police arrived.

The three described the attacker as a black or Asian male with short hair in his 30s to 40s.
