Warrant Issued For Arrest Of Linton Woman

(LINTON) - A warrant has been issued for a Linton woman who police say she stole more than $31,000 from a not-for-profit organization.

Greene County police say 64-year-old Vonda Smith was the acting treasurer of the Physically Challenged Bowhunters of America when stole the funds for her personal use. She has been treasurer since 2014. The organization runs entirely on donations.

According to court documents, After an audit of the organization's accounts, police found Smith had used the cards over several years to make hundreds of transactions that were inconsistent with PCBA's financial guidelines resulting in more than $31,000 missing from the account. Police say more than $5,000 were ATM transactions used for Smith's personal use.

Police say Smith also used to the cards to pay AT&T and Verizon phone bills totaling more than $8,500 for her and her family. She also used the card to pay her spring property tax on her home and made purchases at Kay Jewelers, purchase license plates for her car, clothing, parking and luggage fees while traveling to Florida and paid for food and expenses including renting rooms at the Holiday Inn Express and Sheraton Motels and renting vehicles at Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

According to police, Smith has a criminal history of theft from non-profit organizations.

She was arrested and convicted of felony theft in 2002 when she stole money from the Linton Girls Softball concession stand while working as a volunteer and was convicted in 2003 for stealing money from two military women's organizations while working as treasurer for two military women's organizations at Crane Naval Weapons base.
