Persimmon Festival, Saturday September 23rd Events

(MITCHELL) - The 71st Annual Persimmon Festival kicks off today and will go through Saturday, September 30, 2017.

The theme for this year's festival is "Persimmon City Harvest" celebrating farmers and agriculture.

Join the Mitchell High School Football Boosters for an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast including sausage links and drinks. The MHS Football Boosters Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Mitchell Church of Christ on 1004 W. Main St. at 7 a.m. and will continue until 10:30 a.m. The meals will be priced at $7.50 for adults, $5.50 for children and children 2 or younger eat free.

Following the MHS Football Boosters Pancake Breakfast will be the Community Wide Yard Sale starting at 8 a.m.

Next the Persimmon Festival Queen Pageant will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Mitchell High School Auditorium where preliminary judging and interviews will happen. The event is open to the public for $2 per person for admission. The rest of the pageant will be concluded on Monday, September 25th on the Main St. Stage at 8 p.m.

The first day of the persimmon festival is also EMS Day. Starting at 12:00 p.m., join the EMS agencies as they display equipment and vehicles until 4 p.m. on the high school lot on 12th St.

Then starting at 3 p.m. the Mini- Miss, Little Miss & Junior Miss Persimmon Pageants will also start their preliminary judging and interviews. This event is open to the public and $2 ticket price. These competitions will also concluded on Monday, September 25th on the Main St. Stage.

The first day of the Persimmon Festival will conclude with the Candlelight Tour at Spring Mill State Park. The historic village will be brought to life as it was in the 1800's by Tri-Kappa Sorority members and their families from 4-9 p.m. The State Park gate fees are $7 for Indiana residents and $9 for out of state residents. Annual park passes are accepted.
