Monroe County Sheriff's Department Warning Residents Of Scam

Last updated on Friday, September 29, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents of a scam.

Police have been receiving reports of an individual calling people and claiming to be a deputy with the department and attempting to collect money via Green Dot® Prepaid Visa® for outstanding warrants for things such as failure to appear for court.

Police say this is a scam and they do not collect money from members of the community, they do not collect money from residents and they do not call to advise individuals they are wanted on a warrant.

If you receive such a call, obtain as much information from the person as you can and do not give any of your personal information to them, like - date of birth, social security number or banking / credit card information. Then call police at (812) 349-2780 to report the incident.
