Martha Arnold To Fill Husband's Seat On Mitchell City Council

Last updated on Friday, September 29, 2017

(MITCHELL) - Martha Arnold will fill the Mitchell City County at-large seat.

The seat was vacated when Martha's husband Bill, died after a lengthy battle with cancer on Aug. 29. The Democratic Party held a caucus to fill the vacancy Wednesday night. Martha was the only person to submit a letter of intent with the party to seek the appointment.

Arnold told the Times-Mail she decided to seek the seat on the council to honor her husband's legacy.

Martha was born and raised in Bedford and graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School in 1976. Her mother, Jean Blendowski, still lives in Bedford. Martha moved to Mitchell when she married Bill, who was a Mitchell native, in 1979. She attends the First Baptist Church in Mitchell and has worked at Holmes Hardware for the past 23 years. She and Bill had two daughters and four grandchildren.
