(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer shared with the Lawrence County Commissioners she will hold a “Bad Home” hazardous material drill in Oolitic the morning of Oct. 14th.
Luchauer was unable to attend the meeting because she was assisting Monroe County during their full-scale exercise on Tuesday morning.
She shared through an email that has met with Elite Home Health Care to assist with writing emergency plans and incorporating them into the county emergency plan.
In other business:
The commissioners opened three bids to supply the county with salt for county roadways this winter. Those bids were taken under advisement.

Karen Danielson of IU Health presented the commissioners with their yearly wellness screening proposal.

Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes says nearly all of the paving projects for the county are complete.
"Crews still have a couple of small projects to complete," he added. "They are cutting brush, patching and replacing culverts."
Plans are moving forward on Bridge 67 in Lawrenceport. Construction will begin in January with a completion date in April.
Holmes says a new aluminum box culvert will be placed on Old US 50 East.

Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults reported that there were 170 inmates in the Lawrence County Jail - of those 138 were males, 42 females and 23 Level 6 felons, there were no Department of Correction holds.
Chief Deputy Shoults updated the commissioners on improvements being made at the jail which include painting, replacing lighting and improvements to the bathrooms.
Two of the needed improvements were major suggestions during the recent jail inspection - painting and lighting.
Installation of the lighting in the lower cell blocks is completed.
Painting in the cell blocks is a third complete.
Repairs will be coming soon to the restroom facilities at the jail. The bathrooms date back to 1989 and do not meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Repairs will be paid for with funds from the building repair budget. The fixtures have been ordered and repairs will begin when they arrive.

Thairon Ratliff addressed the commissioner about county funds being used to pay for representation in an adoption case in Martin County. Commissioner Gene McCracken asked Ratliff to supply him with all the information and he would present it to a member of the public defender's board to review the matter.
