(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington teen was arrested after police say he set fire to a mobile home and then attempted to steal items from Walmart.

Police arrested 19-year-old Charles Burris on charges of arson and theft.

According to Bloomington Police Detective Ryan Pedigo, officers were called at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday by a witness that saw Burris set fire to a bicycle at the back of a home in the Heatherwood Mobile Home Community on West Phlox Lane.

Firefighters put out the flames, which also left burn marks on the side of the mobile home.

Police say Burris had poured a flammable liquid near the bike leading up the front steps of the mobile home.

Inside the mobile home, police found furniture overturned, broken knickknacks and burnt candles and paper had been set on fire inside a grill in the home. Police also found the bathroom covered with a white-powder substance.

Police say the mobile home is owned by a family member of Burris.

Police contacted Burris by found phone and found he was at Walmart shopping. Police met him there. They found Burris in possession of a jacket and earrings he was attempting to steal. Burris, who had taken the security tags off the items told police he had intended for paying for the items.

While talking to Burris, officers noticed Burris had a white-powder substance on his shoes and candle wax on his socks. That is when Burris requested a lawyer.

Burris was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Jail.
