(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man frustrated with the heroin use in his neighborhood took an ax and damaged a pickup truck after a man inside using the drug swung a needle at him.

According to Bloomington Police, the man called police at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday about the suspected drug activity in the 900 block of South Washington Street. He told police he saw a man shooting up drugs in a Ford Ranger pickup and was tired of the drug use in his neighborhood.

The 30-year-old man approached the truck and yelled at the man inside before police arrived. Before approaching the truck the man had placed an ax on the landing of his home. The man in the truck, who was holding a syringe, swung the needle in the man's direction and got out of the truck. The caller then picked up an ax and struck the driver's side mirror and the side headlight and windshield three times with the ax before the man fled the scene in the truck.

The 47-year-old driver of the truck called police later and asked police to meet him at Washington and Wylie streets. He told police he was parked reading a newspaper when an angry man approached his truck and struck it with an ax five times.

The driver later admitted to parking on the street and shooting up heroin and disposing of the syringe before contacting police. He told police he never swung the needle at the man with the ax.

The case remains under investigation and no criminal charges have been filed.
