(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man who had been reported missing by his wife was killed Saturday in a motorcycle crash on Indiana 446.

According to a Monroe County Police report, 50-year-old Matthew DeMars was found dead where his 1977 Honda motorcycle left the road and struck a tree in the 1500 block of State Road 446.

Police say DeMars was traveling north on Ind. 446 when the motorcycle traveled off the west side of the road before entering a curve. The motorcycle continued through a ditch and struck a tree. DeMars was thrown from the motorcycle and died from his injuries. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.

DeMars' wife called Bloomington Police at 5 a.m. Saturday to report him missing. She told police she had last seen her husband around 10:30 p.m. on Friday. His wife did speak to him briefly on the phone at 4:30 a.m. Saturday which allowed officers to track his cell phone to the accident scene on Ind. 446.
