Washington Firefighters Battle Apartment Fire

Last updated on Wednesday, August 2, 2017

(WASHINGTON) - For the second time in less than two weeks, the Washington Fire Department was called to apartments at 804 East Main Street.

Fire Chief Dave Rhoads says firemen went to apartment 8 at 1:40 p.m. on Monday. The apartment building is owned by Thad Rusk. Apartment 8 was destroyed in the blaze.

The renter, Shay Wise, was home when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 4:45 p.m.

The state fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

On July 18th, the fire department was called to the same apartment complex and fought a fire in a different apartment.

That incident was ruled suspicious and remains under investigation.
