(SPRINGVILLE) - Police responded to Springville Elementary School on Tuesday after a threat was made.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham, on Tuesday at approximately 2:48 p.m., Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Central Dispatch received a call from Bedford Police Department dispatch requesting officers to Springville Elementary School as a precaution regarding a threat that was made toward a parent who had a child at the school.

"The initial call came into Bedford Police Department dispatch and originated in the City of Bedford," says Sheriff Branham. "Due to the call coming in just minutes prior to children being released to board buses, Central Dispatch contacted Springville Elementary School directly and asked them to lock down and delay loading buses until officers could arrive and ensure that boarding could be done safely. There was NOT a threat made by anyone to go to the school and harm anyone."

"The lockdown and officer response to Springville Elementary School was done out of an abundance of caution for the safety of the children and adults at the school during a busy and vulnerable time of the school day, Sheriff Branham says.

Indiana State Police troopers assisted at the school.

"There was an approximate thirty minute delay in getting children out of the school and on their way to their homes," Sheriff Branham added.

The victim who made the initial call to Bedford Police Department has filed a report with detectives at the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office regarding immediate and prior incidents of threats, intimidation and domestic violence, the majority of which occurred at the victim's home in Springville. She was then connected with resources for victims of domestic violence.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

Sheriff Branham would like to thank the Bedford Police Department and the Indiana State Police for their assistance.

"I also want to thank North Lawrence Community Schools, Springville Elementary School, and especially the staff, students and their families for their patience," he added.
