North Lawrence Community Schools Extend School Day Monday

(BEDFORD) - North Lawrence Community Schools is extending its school day Monday to avoid sending students home during the eclipse's peak viewing time. Many will spend the time viewing the eclipse on NASA's livestream.

Today, for the first time in nearly a century, for about three minutes - a total solar eclipse will be visible from coast-to-coast. This is the first total solar eclipse since 1918, and while indiana isn't in the path of totality, a partial shadow will be visible. Bedford will see a 94.84 percent coverage. The eclipse will begin in bedford at 12:57 p.m., and end at 3:49 p.m.

Lawrence Community Schools Superintendent Gary Conner says the following schools will operate on a 15-minute delayed:


  • Dollens

  • Fayetteville

  • Springville

  • Lincoln

  • Needmore

  • Parkview Primary

  • Parkview Intermediate

  • Stalker

Heltonville and Shawswick elementary schools will remain as scheduled at since those students already dismiss after 3 p.m.

Dismissal times for Bedford North Lawrence High School and for the three NLCS middle schools will not be altered on Monday.

Conner says afternoon preschool classes have been canceled for Monday and will be rescheduled for Friday afternoon.
