IU Trustees To Unveil Design Plans For Bloomington's New Hospital And Academic Health Sciences Building

Last updated on Friday, August 11, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON) - The public can view the new design plans for Bloomington’s new hospital and Indiana University’s academic health sciences building today.

The IU Board of Trustees will present the plans during the board's facilities and auxiliaries committee meeting at 9:45 a.m. in the Indiana Memorial Union Alumni Hall.

IU Health Bloomington Hospital along with Indiana University will build the new facilities on the current site of the IU golf driving range on 75 acres just off the SR 45/46 bypass adjacent to the IU Technology Park.

The hospital will include a helipad, a central energy plant located north of the complex and a loading and receiving facility integrated into the hospital on the northeast side.

The academic building will be built next to the hospital, giving students easy access to the facility as well as doctors. IU expects the additions to attract more students.

The driving range on the IU Golf Course will move to the current par-3 course adjacent to the driving range. The 18-hole championship course on the site will not be affected by the changes.

Construction should begin this year and be completed by 2020.

The Primary care office located at 1302 South Rogers St. and the ambulance garage and crew quarters at 517 W. First St. will not be relocated.

Once the new hospital is built, Bloomington Hospital will close down its 2nd Street facility.

The Hospital Reutilization Steering Committee lead by former state Senator Vi Simpson, will work to determine the future use of the IU Health Bloomington Hospital's facility.
