Excise Police Officers Arrest 100 People During IU's Welcome Week

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana State Excise Police officers arrested 100 people on more than 230 charges over the course of four days during Indiana University’s Welcome Week.

Officers cited or arrested 88 minors, 11 adults and one juvenile during excise enforcement patrols Wednesday through Saturday.

Student's official move-in day was Wednesday, classes began on Monday.

"The majority of the arrests were for illegal possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors and possession of false identification," Cpl. Heather Lynch stated in a news release.

Police say 72 minors were charged with illegal possession of alcohol or illegal consumption; 46 were charged with being in possession of fake identifications and six adults were charged with furnishing alcohol to minors and one was charged with entering a tavern under age.

Police charged five people on drug-related charges.

Bloomington police and Indiana University police also investigated dozens of alcohol-related cases involving minors during Welcome Week.
