Dubois County Sheriff's Dept. Seeking Tips From Public In Murder Of Darin Atkins

Last updated on Friday, August 4, 2017

(DUBOIS CO.) - The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the people’s help in solving the murder of 49-year-old Darin Atkins.

Atkins was found dead in a home in the 3000 block of Harts Gravel Road on July 19th. Police were called to the home around 2 p.m. after a report of a deceased man found in the home. Police say Atkins suffered several skull fractures caused by a blunt force object. No murder weapon was found at the scene.

Dubois County Detective Sgt.Tom Kleinhelter says he has a long list of suspect. At least 10 people are known to have been in Atkins' home between the time he was killed and the time police were notified of the death. Police were finally notified by Atkins' His on-again, off-again girlfriend. Police did not say how much time had passed between the time of death and the 911 call, but he did say it was a 'considerable amount of time.

Kleinhelter explained it's unusual to have a case where people don't immediately call 911. He would not release a timeframe nor any details about the crime but police feel they are close to solving the case. They just need a few details to put the pieces together.

Deputies are still working on nearly 50 tips but are encouraging anyone who has information about the case to call them.

That is why the sheriff's department is asking for more people to come forward with any information.

If you have information, please contact the department at (812) 482-3522 and ask for Det. Sgt. Tom Kleinhelter or another deputy. All calls can remain anonymous.
