(CRANE) - Crane Army Ammunition Activity hosted the commander of Joint Munitions Command Col. Heidi Hoyle for a tour of CAAA’s facilities and an overview of how Crane Army continues to support the future readiness of the Joint Warfighter August 3.
During her time on base, Hoyle visited several facilities that support CAAA's core missions, including the logistical operations center, shipping and receiving dock, and the pyrotechnics facility, reported Raeanna Morgan.
Hoyle, accompanied by JMC Command Sgt. Maj. Tomeka O'Neal, brought with her an empowering message that focused on the importance of ensuring future readiness for the Warfighter by safely and efficiently producing quality munitions.
"Crane is a driving force in the Organic Industrial Base and in our Nation's defense," Hoyle said. "Crane's focus on continuous improvement and on workplace safety enables the installation to perform efficiently. Crane's workforce clearly takes great pride in providing ammunition to the warfighter."
Throughout her visit, Hoyle and O'Neal were briefed by Crane Army employees and had the opportunity to see firsthand CAAA's logistics, surveillance, renovation, and manufacturing capabilities.
Lara Zilafro, Crane Army's pyrotechnic commodity manager, briefed Hoyle on CAAA's work with illumination candles, a capability that will remain key to Crane Army's future of providing readiness to the Warfighter.
"The visit was a great chance to introduce Col. Hoyle to the unique capabilities of CAAA and give her a firsthand glimpse of what we do to support Joint Warfighter readiness," Zilafro said.
Hoyle also had time to tour a few of CAAA's depot operations facilities, including the logistical operations center, two shipping and receiving facilities as well as the quality surveillance center, all of which support the logistical mission of efficiently delivering ammunition to the Warfighter in order to increase readiness.
"It was a pleasure to show Col. Hoyle the operation at shipping and receiving facility," CAAA Material Handling Supervisor Steve Smiley said. "She showed great interest in what it took to perform our day to day mission."
Established Oct. 1977, Crane Army Ammunition Activity produces and provides conventional munitions requirements in support of U.S. Army and Joint Force readiness. It is one of 14 installations of the Joint Munitions Command and one of 23 organic industrial bases under the U.S. Army Materiel Command, which include arsenals, depots, activities and ammunition plants.
