(BEDFORD) - Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer presented the Lawrence County commissioners with a plan to provide rapid response in an event affecting the health, safety and welfare of animals in the county during a disaster or emergency disease outbreaks.
The Lawrence County Animal Disaster plan is for small and large animals, wildlife and exotic animals.
The concept is to give officials a plan when local jurisdiction resources are overwhelmed and when existing agreements may not provide an adequate response.
"Many groups have come together in the planning and drafting of this plan," says Luchauer.
The County Animal Health Officer - who will be the primary coordinating agent.

Animal Health Emergency Support Function - Mitigation Tasks
Identify critical farm/breeding facilities and animal sites that may be vulnerable to an attack, evaluate that vulnerability and determine what mitigative actions could be taken to prevent or reduce that vulnerability - County Extension Office, Emergency Management Agency, County Assessors Department, Local veterinarians, Indiana Department Of Environment Management and Sate Board of Animal Health.
