(SALEM) - The family of Carter Hollowell, a sophomore at Salem High School, is overwhelmed with the community support and prayers being said for their son.

On Monday, Carter fell while leaving a ball game and hit his head, causing a skull fracture.

According to his step-mom Angela Hollowell's Facebook page, "Carter passed out walking across the street from the ball game and hit his head pretty good. We rushed him to the emergency room to find that he has a skull fracture in the back of his head and a bruise/minor bleed of the brain in the front."

He is currently at Norton Children's Hospital, where he had surgery on Wednesday to relieve swelling on the brain and to try to remove a blood clot.

Angela posted that the surgery went well and after removing some of Carter's skull to relieve the swelling the blood clot moved away from the brain stem.

Carter is sedated and on a ventilator.

Friday morning the family learned Carter had suffered a stroke Tuesday, but the extent of the damage will not be know until he wakes.

Monday doctors removed the blot that reads the pressure in his head and he will undergo an MRI. If all goes well they will start to wake him from sedation.

Angela, along with Carter's dad, Travis, started a blog on Facebook to keep everyone up-to-date on Carter's condition. The name of the page is CarterStrong.

To help support Carter and his journey, Lincks Clothing and Shoes has designed black and gold #carterstrong shirts. To order, call the store at (812) 883-4154.
