Blue-Green Algae Found At Lake Lemon

Last updated on Monday, August 7, 2017

(LAKE LEMON) - Blue-green algae has been found at Lake Lemon.

Officials alerted landowners around the lake Thursday afternoon about the blue-green algae.

Conservation officials learned of the presence of the algae after the water in an overflow pond on the east end of the lake was tested by IU Clean Lake Program employee. IU Clean Lakes Program monitors Lake Lemon and other lakes around the state by collecting monthly samples.

The blue-green algae bloom is confined to a small overflow pond on the east side of the lake just south of the long causeway near the Monroe and Brown county line.

Blue-green algae can produce toxins that are harmful and potentially fatal to people, dogs and other animals. Residents are warned to not fish, swim and to keep their pets out of the water.
