Beware Of Scammers Calling To Help Texas Hurricane Victims

Last updated on Wednesday, August 30, 2017

(UNDATED) - “Scammers always take advantage of people’s misfortune. Be very careful who you give money to over the telephone. If you get called and are unsure, hang up. Better yet donate to a charity you know. ” Said Roger Axe, Director of Greene County Emergency Management Agency.

If you want to donate supplies to the Texas Hurricane Victims, please go through channels. Sending unsolicited supplies can create a bottle neck and become part of the problem.

Transportation into the devastated areas is being prioritized and well meaning people can hinder the recovery effort, especially if they are on scene and in the way.

Before sending supplies please check with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security before you go. Please call (800) 669-7362.

It is advised to check with a national relief agency such as Red Cross or Salivation Army and work with them to better coordinate the relief effort.

"Help is always appreciated, but please do it in the right way." Axe adds.
